Historically, Eastern European Jews have done reasonably well under stable, secure despots. It was under the weaker monarchs that the Black Hundreds were able to do the most harm. To paraphrase A FEw Good Men, "The Will of the People? You can't handle the Will of the People!"

Russia will never be democratic- no matter how much they insist they are. The country has been moving back from democracy ever since Putin had gotten comfortable in his presidency position.
